shamrock shuffle 2014

It’s safe to say this was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time. Aside from my typical nights working I had the greatest Sunday, full of the best things in life: running, friends, and brunch.

I woke up at 6am Sunday morning and immediately hopped in the car to drive downtown. The Shamrock Shuffle was yesterday and we were so lucky to have such a beautiful day for it! It was the perfect day to officially kick-off running season in Chicago.

Since it was an 8K I felt relaxed the whole time, no pressure or nerves at all. Everyone else seemed to be in the same boat…no one seemed to be taking the race too seriously. The one thing I have to say is it was PACKED. This was definitely not a race to run for time. The first mile I felt like I was running in place!

Image

I decided to hang back with some friends and not start in my corral so the race got started later than I planned. By 9:15 we were off and running! I absolutely loved the course–we weaved through the main streets downtown, something you obviously don’t get to do every day. It was pretty remarkable that a city as big and busy as Chicago is able to shut down its main streets for almost four hours, even on a Sunday.

Image

My stomach felt funky before the race so I was pretty worried I’d have to stop and walk but luckily the energy and excitement kept me going and I ran all 5 miles. Sure it took me longer because I was surrounded by thousands of people but I actually liked that better! It wasn’t a competitive race, it was a community race, and I felt that every step of the way.

ImageImage

I have no idea what my time was! It doesn’t really matter. But the sun came out just as mile 5 was coming to an end and I saw Zain at the finish line so I left a very happy girl.

So what does a runner do to celebrate a great morning? She eats brunch, of course.

We picked up Spencer and Meggie and headed out to Lincoln Park to grab breakfast at 2 Sparrows. The wait was pretty crazy but well worth it once we got seated in a booth (my favorite). We also had a chance to walk around the neighborhood while we waited for our table so we went to a pet shop and played with the tiniest puppies in the world. I’m now officially in love with French bulldogs 🙂

Image

Brunch was great! Our server forgot to put in our order so we were given plenty of appetizers on the house. He felt so badly about it but to be honest, I’ll take free food any day!

First things first, a goat cheese cinnamon roll.

Image

I know everyone else wasn’t blown away by this, but I loved it. It was sweet without being sickening, and the goat cheese gave it so much depth of flavor (when I say things like that do I sound like I know what I’m talking about?)

Next up were a few donuts: maple & bacon and chocolate, caramel, & peanut

Image

I didn’t love these. They weren’t fluffy how I like my donuts, and to be honest I think I’m just a vanilla long john fanatic. They looked really pretty though so that counts for something!

For my breakfast I had the market quiche. I’m really disappointed in myself for not branching out and trying something different, especially because 2 Sparrows has some really unique, farm-to-table options that you don’t see anywhere else. But when I see quiche on a menu, there’s a 90% chance that’s what I’m ordering. Ever since I studied abroad in Paris I’ve loved the simple idea of that meal: quiche with a simple salad. The market quiche of the day was filled with cheddar cheese, pesto, tomato and onion. It was pretty good! Nothing out-of-this-world but I definitely enjoyed it.

Image

I loved the atmosphere of 2 Sparrows and they had so many cool options that I’d be crazy not to go back. I’ll just have to try something new next time and hope that I fall in love with it. Regardless I’d be happy just going back for a cup of coffee and that cinnamon roll.

Once we finished brunch we knew we had to stay outside–it was in the mid-50s yesterday, a tropical paradise by Midwest-standards, so we decided to walk to Lincoln Park Zoo. I didn’t get any pictures inside but I hadn’t been there before and it was mind-blowing! It’s outdoors and free of charge so you just turn a corner and boom, you’re in the zoo staring at a camel.

ImageImage

All in all a very tiring but exciting day. I have the best time when I’m outside, with my friends, eating great food and being active. Winter can be a hard time for people like me (aka can’t-sit-still folks) so this little taste of spring was much-appreciated.

If you stuck around this long, good for you! I’m proud I kept your attention this long. Have a great Monday!

Questions:

  • Are you signed up for any upcoming races?
  • What’s your favorite outdoor activity to do in the spring?

random round-up friday

Hi, Friends!

Happy Friday! I woke up in the best mood ever. Don’t you love when that happens? It’s been such a good week and I can’t wait to share all the news with you. First things first, I got a new job!

Image

I was lucky enough to land one of the coveted paid internships over at Weber Shandwick! Not only will I be working on high-profile clients and working in an office that is nothing short of gorgeous, but I’ll be working with my best friend Megan. To say that I’m excited is an understatement. I start next Monday and couldn’t be happier! Plus, see that bigggg building in the picture below? That’s where I’m going to be working everyday. Is that legit or what?

Image

Okay enough about work, although that is my exciting news for the week! It’s been a few days so let’s do a random round-up of the things that have been swirling around my mind this week.

Is it time for cold drinks at Starbucks yet?

I’m not sure if this is a Chicago thing but Starbucks has realllllly been pushing their iced coffee and macchiatos lately. I probably pass six stores on my walk to work and I’m constantly faced with mouth-watering pictures of cool, creamy creations. However, and this is a big however, when it’s 30-something degrees everyday the last thing I want is an iced drink. All I want when I finally get into the office is a hot piping cup of coffee, plain and simple. So I have to ask, Starbucks, next year wait until the sun comes out for more than two hours in a day before you tempt me with your deliciousness. I just can’t handle it when my brain and my heart want two different things.

Image

Oil pulling

Image

Have any of you heard of this? It’s based on an ancient Ayurvedic practice and many celebrities swear by it. You put a tablespoon or two of oil (I chose coconut oil) in your mouth and swish it around for 15-20 minutes. People claim that benefits include whiter teeth, better breath, relief from migraines, eczema, arthritis and bronchitis, as well as better vision and mild hangovers. I’m not on board with it being a miracle practice but I swished coconut oil in my mouth for 20 minutes and it felt pretty darn good. At first it was gag-inducing–it felt like I had just put lard in my mouth. Luckily the mild coconut taste made it tolerable. After 20 excruciatingly long minutes I was done and my mouth felt awesome. If anything it made my post-dinner sweet tooth go away and definitely left my mouth feeling cleaner. Ironically enough, however, my eczema has gotten worse in the past few days so I’m definitely not going to believe that this does anything for your body other than clean out your mouth. Oil pulling is definitely an interesting thing to do and I’d suggest that everyone try it at least once. I love alternative medicine so this was a very cool experiment. Now to try scraping….

Adreian Payne and Princess Lacey

If you haven’t seen this story yet, please do yourself a favor and check it out. I’ve seen it a few times now and constantly am brought to tears by it. I can’t handle how they call each other “brother and sister.” It’s a breathtaking, remarkable kind of love story. Children should not get cancer. Are you kidding me? Is there anything more maddening in this world? It’s absolutely sickening that this little girl’s childhood has been destroyed.

Boutiques on Wheels

Image

Classic Good Morning America letting me in on all the up-and-coming trends/stories. You know food trucks? Well now there are fashion trucks! You pop in, shop around, and can leave the fashion truck with a whole new outfit. The jury’s out on this one for me; on the one hand I can totally see this being less overwhelming than walking into a massive store and trying to find an outfit. But on the other hand I just can’t imagine something on wheels offering enough options and comfort for me to actually want to shop in it. It’s tough to visualize, but we’ll see if this trend has enough traction to stick around.

Making myself stretch – the reality of recovery time

I’ve been running a lot more than normal, usually 3x per week. This is pretty impressive for me considering I’m logging all these miles on the treadmill until the weather gets friendlier. But, as we all know, what comes with more miles? More need to stretch. I haaaate stretching. I hate sitting still and being calm and  all that jazz so stretching is not my favorite. But like getting check-ups and cleaning your bathroom, it’s just painfully necessary. It’s not only necessary to make long-term running safe, but it’s important to make sure I recover as fast as possible. I’m telling you, four years ago when I caught the running bug I could bust out four miles and not be sore at all. Nowadays just sitting after a four mile run is painful. Oh how age gets us, eh? (Kidding). But nonetheless stretching, icing, and foam rolling has to happen, plain and simple. I’ve figured out a way to make it bearable…mainly by stretching while eating and watching TV. Multitasking distracts me from stretch-induced boredom.

So what did I miss the past few days? I can’t wait to catch up on all your blogs! But for now tell me the most random things from your week. Have a great weekend! Eat great food!

keep calm and run like simba

Hey all!

I hope you had a kickass weekend.  Mine was….busy to say the least, but I like it that way! I ate great food and even got to run outside, so I can’t complain.  The fact that it was warm enough to get outside and pound the pavement got me way too excited for spring, a pretty premature feeling here in Chicagoland according to the weatherman.

But hey, I’ll take what I can get. The only downside was I couldn’t find a headband for the life of me so I looked like Simba by mile four.

Image

One of the most important things I did this weekend was sign up for the Shamrock Shuffle downtown this upcoming Sunday! I was going back and forth about actually running this…call it fear, call it laziness, call it tight-wallet syndrome but I just couldn’t commit. Well I finally bit the bullet yesterday and registered. I’ll be running with my friend Jordan, and with a new playlist and visions of our post-race brunch, I’m confident that I’m going to kick butt.  Here’s to hoping it hits 40 degrees!

In terms of food I’ve been trying to incorporate more veggies and pure sources of protein into my diet in preparation of summer, and I’ve definitely been making some progress! Like we talked about last week, it’s hard to crave veggies in cold weather (unless they’re covered in cheese, of course) but I’ve done a decent job. Not to mention I’m still balancing those healthy choices with things like cheesy chicken quesadillas the size of my head and chocolate. It’s a work in progress.

I have a crazy amount of work to do over the next few days so I’ll be back on Wednesday! But until then, here are a few pictures of my weekend happenings. Have a great Monday! Can you believe it’s almost April? Good lord.

Image

shrimp, jicama, avocado, black beans, queso fresco, corn, peppers, tomatoes and onions

Protein Box from Starbucks

Pounded chicken with a panko/red pepper flake/garlic crust, baked at 400 for 45 minutes. Served with “hot pasta” aka pasta, finger hot peppers, parmesan cheese, olive oil, garlic and salt. Also the smallest glass of wine you’ll ever see

Image

Image

Homemade bran muffins

Image

This was the best thing I saw all weekend. I don’t understand if there’s a cake in there or if m&ms just spill out, but either way, sign me up

Questions:

  • What was the best thing you did this weekend?
  • What’s your favorite part of spring that you’re looking forward to?

What’s the opposite of a pet peeve?

Apparently I can never ever leave the wonderful world of blogging for a full week ever again. I leave for seven freaking days and this girl and this girl quit their jobs, this girl decides she’s moving, and this girl starts a whole new blog. It’s decided—I can never leave again otherwise I miss out on way too much. I have a bad case of FOMO, can you tell?

Image

So today I ran into half a dozen people all partaking in my personal pet peeves. Gum smacking girl? Check. Coffee slurping? Check. Walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk? Check. Talking with a Bluetooth in your ear? Check. Wearing sunglasses indoors? Check. Man it was like a heyday of people doing little things that bug me! I was thinking about dedicating a whole post to pet peeves when I realized that would go against everything we’ve been talking about lately. The whole “glass half full” kinda stuff. So today we’re going to talk, not about pet peeves, but about little loves.

Image

Little loves. Yep, that’s right, I’ve personally created a term to describe the opposite of pet peeves. I’m pretty much Webster. So in the spirit of positivity, hope, and optimism, let’s talk about our little loves.

When people hold the door for me

  • This just comes down to common courtesy. It’s not the physical action of having the door held open for me that I love. It’s the fact that someone else, in their own little world, thought enough about someone else to hold the door open after them. Little actions like that are more scarce in our society where we’re wrapped up in a text or a phone call. So when a stranger holds the door open for me I get a huge boost of happiness for humanity.

When someone compliments my lunch

  • In case you haven’t realized it by my blog title, I love lunch. Nine out of ten times I put thought, love, and creativity into my lunch.  Lately my coworkers have been commenting on my creations and it really brightens my day.

When baristas leave enough room for cream in my coffee cup

  • I’ve been a barista. I know it’s crappy to dump coffee in the trash can (seriously, people, where do you think that liquid goes?) But if I ask for “room for cream” and you leave me with a centimeter at the top, you leave me no choice! So when a barista is on my level and leaves me that beautiful full inch of room, enough so I can pour in cream, sugar AND stir it with no problem? Well, I love that.

When an episode of Diner’s Drive Ins and Dives comes on that I’ve never seen before

  • Or the Kardashian’s. So sue me.

When you get to the register at a clothing store and realize that what you’re buying is actually on sale.

  • Who doesn’t love saving money by surprise?

When you’re eating regular French fries and find a random curly fry.

  • I don’t watch HIMYM very often but this happened in an episode recently and I remembered how awesome of a feeling it is to be surprised by a curly fry straggler.

When you read a random Pinterest recipe and have the urge to make it that second and realize that yes, by some random act of God, you have all the ingredients in your fridge.

Those are just a few of the everyday things that brighten my day. What are some of yours?

Image

let’s play catch-up

Hello? Is anybody still there?

In case you haven’t noticed I haven’t written anything in a week. No eats, workouts, or philosophical thoughts I just had to share. I wish I could say there was a better reason for it, but I honestly didn’t have time to sit down at a computer and write for fun in the past week.  Between St. Patrick’s Day weekend and the way things have been at work, my focus has been elsewhere.

Let’s do a quick, random catch-up to get us all back to speed.  Let’s be friends again, ok?

Image

I’m not a fan of not having “a path”. I know we’ve talked about this before so I won’t get all into it again, but man does it suck feeling like everyone around or above you has it all together and you’re “gaining experience”. I’ve learned more in the past few months that I have in a long time—almost like I’m in school again. It’s been great! I just hate that things aren’t guaranteed in life, you know? I’m just working my way up the bracket.

Speaking of brackets, is anyone else excited about March Madness?? This is one of my favorite times of the year! First of all it brings back memories of spring break because in the past I’ve usually been traveling during the games (oh Austin how I miss you!) But secondly, who doesn’t love college basketball? It’s so quick and action-packed and filling out a bracket, pretending I have a clue who’s going to come out on top is always so much fun. Last year was too random for my taste (I’m looking at you, Florida Gulf Coast) but this year I can already tell is going to be exciting because there are fewer teams who are shoe-ins.  Gotta fill out my bracket soon! Wouldn’t it be nice to win a billion dollars?

Image

I’ve been trying to shake up my meals lately. Throughout winter I pretty much ate the same thing for breakfast and lunch (thanks to laziness inspired by the polar vortex): bagel egg sandwich and a hummus/cheese/veggie sandwich for lunch.  With spring right around the corner my creative juices are flowing, so here are some ideas I’ve been having lately.

ImageImageImageImage

And finally, in other news, I built a dresser! 7 hours later and rug burn all over my legs and here you have it!

ImageImage

With that being said, I can’t wait to catch up on all your blogs! I’ve missed a lot in the past week I’m sure. It feels good to get back to writing – it always does.

Questions:

  • Do you usually stick to the same favorites for meals?
  • Did you have a fun St. Patrick’s Day weekend?
  • Are you filling out a March Madness bracket? Who do you think will win it all?

What if nothing were stopping you?

First thing’s first…is that title grammatically correct? It’s bugging me…

I’m not sure if any of you follow Lululemon on Instagram but recently they started a campaign called #ifnothing, the theme being “If nothing were stopping me I would…”. Some of the funny ones that people have already shared are pretty great:

ImageImage

unnamed

It’s an interesting concept, really. What is it that holds us back in life? For me, I’m not married, I don’t have any kids. I have two jobs that I depend on for money and pay back my student loans, but if I really saved I’m sure I could make time for whatever it is that I want. Okay well not everything, but things that would make me happy.  So what would do if nothing was holding me back?

Travel once a month

Image

If time, money, and culture permitted it, I think the world would be a lot happier if we could take vacations once a month. I’m not a lazy bum who just wants to lay on a beach, escaping from the “stress” of my life. What I’m saying is I want my life to be full of adventure, exploration and travel. First on my list? The Taj Mahal. It’s not the most traditional travel destination but I get goosebumps when I imagine visiting somewhere with a culture that is so drastically different from my own.

Image

Get a tattoo

The only thing holding me back from this is the permanency. I’ve never done anything that permanent before so the thought of having something with me for the rest of my life is pretty daunting. But the “yolo” part of me deep down inside is just screaming “Go For It! Why Not?” So we’ll see. I’d probably get a small tattoo of the earth on my wrist.

Image

Buy a dog

Okay I have a valid excuse for this one. I’m suuuuper allergic to dogs! But honestly if I wasn’t so bad about putting it off I could be getting allergy shots so that within a few years I’d be fine owning a dog. I just want a pup to be active with! I’m always really jealous of people who have a dog to run with, play with, I only wish pugs were more active because mannnnnn do I want one.

Image

Run every race and go to every concert that comes to my city

Okay these go hand and hand because there is only one thing holding me back from them: MONEY. There are fun-themed 5ks and 8ks every weekend in Chicago, but they’re so gosh darn expensive! Also, you have to commit to them weeks in advance. Is it that much to ask that I wake up on a Saturday, see that there’s a 5k around my neighborhood, go to the site, pay, and run? In the perfect world….

Image

The same goes for concerts. Why are there all these fees? I just bought a concert ticket for $21 that, after fees, ended up being $39. What’s up with that? Convenience fee, facility fee, processing fee, oh my. I wish I could just walk up to the door the day of the concert, hand them $20 and listen to great music for an hour or two.

It seems like MONEY is what is holding me back. Sad, but true.

So what’s holding you back? #ifnothing

warning: weekend food porn ahead

I really need to get my life together. I know it’s totally fine to love food like family and declare “going out to eat” your favorite hobby, but I really pushed the limits of normalcy this weekend.

I ate and I ate and I ate…lucky for me I had enough free time to squeeze in a great workout Saturday morning That, in combination with serving both Friday and Saturday nights made me feel like less of a chub monster.

Image

That being said, I don’t regret this weekend one bit. I spent some great quality time with my Mom and Megan, and we got some of the first signs of spring (Daylight Savings + 45 degree weather wooo!)

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

So…..did I miss anything this weekend? I don’t see any ice cream up there. Shoot now I want ice cream.

But in all seriousness, there’s something to be said for “too much” food. I think as spring starts to peek it’s head into my life I’m realizing that my hibernation period is over. No more “oh it’s -30 so my body is burning extra calories so hey let’s get that family sized bag of m&ms.” I’m simply not going to need all that anymore. That’s not saying that I’m going to cut anything out of my life, but I definitely need to start watching portions again. All the spin in the world can’t negate the amounts of deep dish pizza I want to eat. Luckily, with the weather changing I’ll soon be able to run outside. Running outside is what gets me in a great habit of fitness. In the winter I stick with working out, but most weeks only make it to the gym 4 days a week. When it’s nice outside I’m motivated to exercise 5-6 times a week, which might not make a huge difference fitness-wise but it definitely improves my overall mood. I can’t wait especially for the Lakeshore path to clear up so I can run down the most beautiful route in the world.

Image

Sidenote: I’m pretty worried about titling this “food porn” as I think it’s gonna get some freaky traffic to my site. Taking the risk, though. I’ll let you know how it all works out.

Questions:

  • What motivates you to exercise?
  • Do your fitness habits change with the seasons?
  • What was the best thing you ate this weekend?

so apparently it’s Friday?

It’s been a whirlwind week. It definitely doesn’t feel like Friday that’s for sure! I did a lot after work this week which probably explains it. Remember awhile ago when we talked about not looking forward to the weekends and instead making every day special so time doesn’t slip through your fingertips? Yeah, I’ve been trying that out.

On Tuesday I went to Zain’s company basketball game. It’s always so funny to see grown men running around an elementary school gym for 30 minutes.

Image

Wednesday night Zain and I had tickets to Second City! If you’re not sure what that is it’s a comedy/improv theater that got so many famous careers started, from Tina Fey to Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell.

ImageImageImage

Oh my gosh you guys it was soooooooooooooo good. How often these days do we look away from the screen and sit in a room full of people and laugh for two hours? It was so refreshing, not to mention hilarious. I can definitely see some of those improv actors on SNL one day.

After the show we got a quick dinner at Chipotle–I had the veggie tacos for no reason other than the guacamole apocalypse.

Image

You’ve all heard about that, right? That Chipotle might need to “temporarily” stop serving guacamole because of rising food prices? Mark my words if that happens I’m going to be outside my local store picketing with a sign and everything. What good is Chipotle without the guac? It’s basically just a taco bell, people.

In other news, Trader Joe’s is officially my favorite store on the planet. I’m running really low on groceries right now so I decided to stop in TJ’s before work and get my meals for the day. I bought a mini quiche, a lemon Luna bar, a bag of sugar snap peas and a can of soup for $8. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks for under $10? TJ’s I love you (not to mention their food is killer – this mini quiche was delicious and I was definitely the envy of the office).

ImageImage

Side comment: I think I’m officially getting old. I’m still sore from a workout that I did on Sunday. Come on, body, this is just ridiculous. I just want to do a pushup without bursting into tears.

And last but not least, I’ve been doing a great job working on my personal goals! One of the things I promised myself at the start of this year was that I was going to do more fun things around the city, even during the week. Yeah sometimes I get off work and the only thing I want to do is watch Millionaire Matchmaker and eat a giant quesedilla, but that’s not what makes life memorable. Something I used to do a few years back was go to concerts, and I’d forgotten how much I love to do that. So recently I bought tickets to three upcoming concerts–Bastille, Neon Trees/Smallpools, and Luke Bryan. Even typing those words out is getting me so excited! Music is a huge part of what makes me happy so seeing it live is gonna be great!!

Questions:

  • Are you as mad about the “guacamole apocalypse” as I am?
  • What are you looking forward to about this weekend?
  • Are you going to any upcoming concerts? What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

let’s play doctor! + things to stop expecting from others

Okay first thing’s first…let’s play doctor! Does anyone know what this pain is?

ImageIt’s the weirdest pain in my lower calf…it feels like a really bad charlie horse. Luckily I was able to run 4 miles on it this morning but as soon as I got to work it was instantly painful once I sat down. I’m guessing it’s just a pulled muscle or something but it’s unbearable for a few minutes and then I pop some Advil and it’s gone. I know that should be a good thing but I don’t want to be putting a temporary band-aid over a bigger problem, ya know?

Random life question: how does Advil just KNOW what to do once you’ve taken it? If I have a headache, Advil cures it. Toothache? Advil’s got it. Throbbing toe? Done. So how does it just know where to go? Haha is this a stupid question or what? These are the things I think about at work….(another similar question: where are all the baby pigeons?)

Anyway….

Here’s a look at what I’ve been eating the past few days. I’ve been trying to sneak vegetables in as much as possible–after all, March is the month of green, no?

ImageImageImageImage

I’m a little sad that I missed National Pancake Day yesterday. In fact, I didn’t really celebrate Fat Tuesday at all (minus some m&ms but that’s nothing out of the ordinary for me haha). Do they make calendars for foodies to remind them when each “National ____ Day” is? If I miss National Omelet Day or National Cupcake Day someone’s gonna get shanked.

On a little serious note, I’d like to discuss this article that I read yesterday. It has a  great message that really spoke to me.

Image

For me, the things that I tend to worry about in life are oftentimes the things on this list. I let things that other people do bother me too much, and put wayyyy too much emphasis on what people do or don’t do for me. Personally, I need to STOP needing a partner in crime all the time and need to be capable of doing activities that I love by myself. I need to realize that it’s not a wasted moment just because someone isn’t enjoying it with me. Not everything in life is meant to be social. I also was really struck by the one about people being on time. It’s so funny because I’m rarely on time myself but if someone, especially someone close to me, shows up really late to something, I take it personally, like time spent with me isn’t important to them. What’s up with that?! I read way too much into it!

Regardless of what you think of the artcile and if you relate to one or more of the tips, it’s definitely a good idea to place less emphasis on what other people around you are doing. This is definitly something I need to work on. I’ve noticed that my entire day can change instantly by someone else’s opinion, words, or actions. That’s not a good way to live…it’s downright exhausting.

Take a look at it and let’s discuss below!

weekend happenings: oscar edition

wooooo happy monday, everyone!

It’s -12 here in Chicago (I know I know, I’ll stop talking about the weather once it stops being so freakishly unbelievable)

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I did and I had so much fun!! I don’t even watch, usually, but for some reason this year a small group of friends and I decided to get together and make it a big deal. So a big deal it was — full of funfetti cookies, m&ms, popcorn and Stella. Speaking of that, did you know you can use funfetti cupcake mix to make cookies?! My mind was blown.

ImageImage

The rest of the weekend was full of delicious eats (as most weekends are). I was happy to finally have the chance to take Zain to one of my all-time favorite little sandwich shops after we spent some time getting work done on his car on Saturday. The only thing I love more than a delicious sandwich shop is a cute, quaint, historically-themed sandwich shop in a picturesque downtown suburbs setting. Just adorable. Enter, Bluffington’s, named after a British man who met his demise when a cricket ball flew thru his windshield. I mean, not the way I’d like to go but it certainly makes for a good story! They have the best tuna melt in town and it’s always a treat when I can make the drive to get one.

Image

For as I love the city, there’s something special about being in the suburbs. Everyone’s just so friendly. At Bluffington’s it was the owner’s birthday so he had a giant birthday cake sitting there for all the customers to share. Loyal customers kept coming in and wishing him and happy birthday, stepping behind the counter to give him a hug. It was really precious and I love witnessing little moments like that between people.

You know you’ve been dating for over 3 years when walking through a candle store is a hilarious and cute date idea.

Image

Good lord there are some weirdddd smells out there now. Do you know anyone who wants to smell popcorn in there house WHEN NO ACTUAL CONSUMABLE POPCORN IS TO BE FOUND? Idk that just seems like torture to me.

ImageImage

Weirdly enough, though, they captured the “Football” scent very well.

I had to work both Friday and Saturday nights so nothing fun or exciting there. Sadly I’m just not a night owl – I accepted that a long time ago and would much rather fill my days with fun activities than stay up late getting into mischief, you know? 😉

Sunday played out like it usually does: church with my family followed by a mammoth breakfast and workout:

ImageImageThis workout murdered me! When did burpees get SO hard? I mean they’ve always been hard but DAMN.

Oh and side note I cried when Jared Leto won Best Supporting Actor, so there’s that.

ImageAn incredible actor, musician, humanitarian, and soul. I love him and am so happy he got the recognition he deserves as an artist.
