I was trying to think of a long-winded intro for this recipe but it’s just too simple. I figured I owed you all ONE fall recipe that was apple-themed instead of continuing my minor squash-obsession. So if you have an extra hour of prep time on your hands (coring, peeling and chopping apples isn’t an easy task) or just really need to take out some stress on food, then dedicate some time to this. Because you know what they say – all good things take time. Except microwave popcorn. And 4G LTE.
Crockpot Applesauce
Ingredients
- 24-30 cored/peeled/chopped apples – variety of Macintosh, Jonathan, and Golden Delicious
- 1 cup of Trader Joe’s Honey Crisp apple cider
- 3/4 cup sugar (I used 4 packets of stevia instead)
- 1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in your crockpot on low for eight hours.
PS apple is one of those words that, when you write it enough times, you take a step back and think, “What IS that word?” Weird word.
Enjoy!
Questions:
- Do you ever use your crockpot to make sweet recipes? I hadn’t before this!
- Do you like your applesauce plain or with cinnamon/sugar, or another combo?
Agh! You’re giving me Trader Joe’s envy! We’ve yet to get a Trader Joe’s anywhere near where I live. BUT! We do have a Whole Foods finally being built to be open next Fall. There’s hope! Haha. Great recipe too.
Haha well luckily in this case any cider will do 😉 but I definitely understand the envy! That place is the bomb!
I am so lazy, I microwave apples with brown sugar and cinnamon….the crockpot though- I can only imagine how epic it would be. Also, apples for bloody days.
That’s a good idea! I’d add some oatmeal on top and it’d be like faux-cobbler 🙂 yum!
Crockpot applesauce?!! I bet that makes the house smell amaze. I like applesauce plain/with cinnamon–I’m not picky!
It really did make my house smell amazing. I kept looking for reasons to open the crockpot and stir it so I could keep smelling it 🙂
I never use my crockpot. I think that I am too lazy for a crockpot. I didn’t know that it was possible, but it is.
That’s definitely a new level of laziness lol but then again I didn’t spend the last few months training for a marathon….
Yay for Apple love!
I do love making apple sauce and it’s so easy to do in the crock pot! I just add a bit of cinnamon to mine and then once it’s finished in the pot, I add a dollop of honey to sweeten it! Perfecto!
I’ve never heard of adding honey! Great idea!
I just don’t know why I have not tried this yet. I have a big bag of apples sitting in my fridge that are probably rotting or something. This needs to happen in my life soon!
Haha it’s the best/easiest way to use up a big supply of apples for sure. We had the same issue – too many apples and no idea what to do with them before they went bad!
GAHH!!! That looks totally awesome!
I love crock post, but don’t use them to their full potential.
Applesauce? YES for the cinnamon! In fact, yes for cinnamon on everything!! I am eating my oatmeal and just remembered why it’s a little off..spaced the cinnamon haha! Thanks!
haha cinnamon is SO important! When I worked a desk job I had a little container of it with me at all times. It just takes food to the next level.
I love all things apple– and this looks delicious! I’ve made a lot of apple desserts this year but have never tried an apple sauce.
I never THINK about apple desserts (I’m too much of a chocoholic) but whenever I have them I’m reminded how delicious, warm and comforting they can be, especially as the temperatures drop!
mmm this looks delicious. i’m a sucker for any and all things apple spice or apple cinnamon — my defaults, along with pumpkin. love those fall flavors. i don’t have a crockpot, however, and i don’t really cook, sooooo i’ll just settle for reading about those of you who do. 🙂
Hahaha the crockpot is MADE for people who don’t cook 🙂 you can walk away and let it work its magic!
Must get one! 🙂
I have never made homemade applesauce ever or in the crockpot. This sounds very simple. I like mine sweet with cinnamon. This is perfect for this time of year!
It really is so simple, if you can get past the actual apple prep part 😉
Woahhhhh! I always eat my apples raw but I’m going to have to try this, sooooo good!

It’s a great way to use up apples after apple-picking! Sometimes you just can’t get thru that many raw ones haha. Plus once you get the prep work done it’s so easy and it makes the house smell amazing!
Yum! I never used my crockpot to make something sweet! Your recipe is such a breath of fresh air amongst the pumpkin hysteria of the fall. I’ll share this with my brother, he loves apple sauce!
Haha I figured it was time for a little less pumpkin a little more apple in the blog world 🙂 I’d never used it for sweet stuff either so this was a cool change! Plus it made the house smell so great all day as it was cooking!
I tried to make applesauce once in my crockpot. It didn’t go very well. I don’t think I used enough apples. Let’s just say that my crockpot did not look at all like yours does in that photo! haha.
Hahaha well hopefully it didn’t scar you too much that you won’t give it another go one day 😉 food accidents are always so tragic though, aren’t they? so much deliciousness, wasted!
One of these days I’m going to have to give crockpot applesauce a whirl. Probably not right now, since I already have two jars of applesauce in my fridge…but someday! Haha. Also, I sampled the honey crisp cider at TJ’s a couple of weeks ago and ooommmmmggggggg. So good!
I love that cider! I liked the spiced one even better but apparently my mom gets the final vote 😉 lol.
I really need to STEAL my brother’s crock pot…. However it’s like 500 pounds soooooooo maybe not? LOL!
Crock pots are a bitch to move/clean but man do they cook good food!
I made apple crisp in the crockpot this Fall, delicious!! 🙂
Good lord – you just took it to the next level! Im dreaming of a streusel topping cooking in a crockpot now and im drooling
Yummmmy I love apples and cinnamon!
My crock pot broke last year and I actually haven’t replaced it… whoopsies!
Well you get a pass until now but now that the holidays are coming up get on that, woman! There are way too many good things to make in the crockpot this time of year 🙂
While trolling on Pinterest the other night I saw a recipe for a PIE made in a crockpot!!! I was SO intrigued!
What CANT you make in the crockpot? Jeez louise
That looks like a big crockpot OVERLOADED with apples! Do you think the crockpot would be something I could bring with me while dorming next year?
It was overloaded with apples 🙂 luckily they cooked down haha. That’s the one thing about crockpots that I dislike – they’re way too tricky to travel with and clean!
