Let’s keep it short and sweet today, guys. I have a few things I think you should know.
Hairspray gets pen out of leggings
I decided to be bold and brave and buy a pair of leggings that wasn’t black. Less than 24 hours later I ended up with a pen mark on my thigh. I thought I could quickly clean it with a baby wipe, but that just left a water mark around the pen stain. So I had the distinct pleasure of walking around the rest of the day looking like I had a boob on my thigh. Let’s just say “Electric Coral” pants don’t hide mishaps well.
Thankfully, with a little help from Google + my mom, I tried spraying hairspray on the area, giving it a good rub, and throwing the leggings in the washer. Voila! The pen was gone!
Don’t say you never learn anything on this blog!
Jessica @ How Sweet Eats knows how to make KILLER Thai Noodles
I rarely take the time to make a recipe from start to finish anymore. Usually because I don’t have the spices, oils, herbs, seasonings that are required, and I don’t want to spend the money to stock my cabinets (even though of course that would just mean I’m gonna have a kickass cabinet for the future). But when I saw Jessica’s Thai Noodles I bookmarked it and decided to make it for dinner last night. It was OUTSTANDING. I love pad thai, and even though this wasn’t that dish exactly, it was better than any Thai dish I’ve ever paid for at a restaurant.
Make them now make them now make them now. Thanks to this recipe, I now know how to blanch bok choy. BRB adding that to my LinkedIn profile.
…will take you out of your comfort zone.
I’m not one to willingly put myself in a situation where I’m going to a) look like an idiot b) not be good at what I’m doing or c) be wrestling on the ground with complete strangers. But I did all of that at Brazil-021 in Chicago. Hannette, one of the instructors and possessor of eight world titles, has become one of my friends in the fitness community lately and she graciously invited me to come try out a class. I have never, EVER participated in martial arts, done any kind of combat, or taken a self-defense class, so I was truly at the mercy of the class (all incredible men and women). They were all so kind to me — there were times when I could tell that what they were teaching me was the equivalent of 2+2 to them, but they were patient and encouraging. My favorite part of the class was that all the students cheered each other on. It transported me back to my days playing sports, and I remembered how great it felt to be part of a team.
PS you can look like a fool for 60 minutes and survive. Sometimes I need to remind myself of that!
Dalmatia Fig Spread
….is the soul mate of your fancy cheese.
You probably think you don’t need something like this. But trust me, you do. You know that sweet, delicious spread that’s always on the perfect cheese plate at your neighbor’s holiday party and you’re too shy to ask what it is because if you do you’ll probably get roped into dog-sitting again? It’s dalmatia fig spread.
I stared at it for probably a good three or four minutes at Jewel the other day, debating if it was really worth the $8. Let’s be honest. Today isn’t payday. But then I thought back to the cheese I was coerced into buying at Trader Joe’s on Sunday and I made the financially-sound and adult decision to buy some fancy jam to go with it. So now I have fancy cheese, fancy jam, and fancy crackers. Throw in the $9.99 bottle of Chardonnay that I snagged and I am turning into quite the broad.
I’m linking up with Katie and Heather — head that way to check out some other favorites of the week!
Happy Friday, folks!
The hair spray thing- Genius. Although leg boob would have looked pretty cool.
Okay you need to do this- Fig preserves + brie cheese + arugula (a tiny bit) grilled with a dab of butter- Oh my gee I need one now.
Leg boob tattoos are going to be the hottest thing this season. Mark my words. I will definitely try that! I’m guessing it’s on bread, right? Or no haha
Oh my goodness for the first time EVER I think you have talked about a product that we have here too – that fig spread! I tried a piece of blue cheese at whole foods and the member of staff there told me I had to try it with the jam, so I did and mind blown! It’s worth every penny and I know I will buy it one day for a treat, along with some tasty cheese!
Have a fab weekend!
Yay I’m so happy that jam has made its way across the pond! It’s so freaking good when combined with cheese. So. So. Good.
I never knew hairspray took out ink. Good to know. Those leggings are such a fun color. Very springy. That dish looks delicious!
The dish is incredible! And I’m glad I shared the hairspray tip haha no one knew it!
Hairspray gets pen out of leggings? That is genius! I am going to have to try that.
No one knew! I’m glad I shared that tip!
Definitely good to know about the hair spray thing. Now, if I only had hair spray…. That fig spray is the (quasi literal) jam. Seriously. You don’t need cheese, trust me. A spoon works just as well.
You all are on the same page today haha. Everyone has tried that fig jam, and no one knew the hairspray tip.
Nice tip! Didn’t know hairspray had other functions other than styling hair! Those noodles looks sooo good! I want some now…i love pad thai too so I’m pretty sure this will be a hit on my books!
No joke that dish is the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. And I have leftovers!
You are the freaking BEST! I am always getting ink on my clothes (I’m a designer/work for a printer) and I’m going to have to try the hairspray trick on like three things.
Those noodles look delicious! I love all things Thai.
No one knew this tip! I’m so glad I shared it! I’m sure with Betty it’ll come in handy a lot over the years too haha. Make those noodles! So, so, sooooo good.
Good hairspray tip! I’m impressed with your jiu jitsu prowess…good for you!
Well thank you! I was definitely out of my element. The first few minutes I couldn’t stop laughing cuz it’s hard to get in a mindframe where you’re physically touching/fighting other people.
I’ll have to remember that hairspray tip! I’ve never taken a martial arts class, but I feel like I would really like it. I secretly like to imagine that I’m a bad-ass, so I’m now wondering why I’ve never actually tried martial arts yet.
Haha in some dreamworld I like to picture myself as a total badass too. So I guess I’m one step closer to achieving that? But still far, farrrrr away haha.
Super cute leggings! Love them. Who would of thought hairspray can make your hair look voluminous and get pen out of your fave capris! Happy Friday!
Haha hairspray is definitely something to have in the “tool box”
OMG those noodles! I need. Happy Friday!!
Please make. You will NOT regret it. It’s a hassle to get all those ingredients but I’m so happy I have them now! I’m going to make this all the time!
I mean, if you’re going to buy the fancy cheese, you may as well buy the fancy jam too, right? Go big or go home.
I like the way you think
So glad you didn’t wreck those leggings–love that color! Thanks for the pen tip. I will definitely keep that in my back pocket in case I ever accidentally write on a pair of leggings. 😀 Have a lovely weekend!
Hahaha hey you never know! 😉 I’m glad it worked too — those leggings are too cute to have ruined so soon!
I need to file that hairspray tip away because guaranteed I’ll need it one day!!
That fig spread + cheese + crackers = heaven!!!!!!!
File away! I had the fig/cheese/cracker combo for dinner and it was incredible. Nothing like it!
I totally clicked on your blog link from the life in leggings blog because it mentioned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have been training for 5 years and love it! That is so awesome that you got to train with Hannette, she is a legend in the sport. I hope you try it again, it gets easier all the time and you eventually feel less silly. It was the first sport I ever tried and I was terrible at it at first. Luckily it’s so fun and everyone is so nice that you don’t really care. I still love going to class everyday and never dread it which is something I can’t say about the regular gym. Anyways have a great weekend!
Thank you for stopping by! Hannette is the sweetest woman — you would never guess she’s such a badass! I’m happy you found a workout that you love doing every day. That’s so important! Five years? Whoa! I can imagine you’re a badass too! haha
Those noodles look insanely good! I never seem to have all of the ingredients for Thai or Chinese food on hand, but those recipes always look amazing.
I’m the same way with ingredients like that but I just bit the bullet and now I have a few of the basics for if I ever want to cook Thai food again. That makes me feel so happy, and a bit more like an adult 😉 my cabinet/fridge is getting more and more stocked every day!
The impulse buy gets me in Wegmans every time. They are just so good with displays! I start to imagine all these dinner parties I will host and the fun I will have…except I have no time nor any space to do so =P I think if you enjoy the fig spread, it was worth the $8…maybe not just everyday lol
I imagine dinner parties too! That’s so funny! My aspirations don’t always align with what my real, everyday life actually looks like haha
I had never seen that fig spread until I went to my moms bosses house for Easter! She had some, but I had nothing to spread it on!! I debated just sticking my fingers into the jar, but I feared we wouldn’t be invited back.
It’s such a classic thing to have at parties. Figs are so underrated — they make a helluva jam! Good call on the keeping-your-fingers-to-yourself thing. Don’t ever jeopardize invites to future free, food-filled parties!
Haha I love the way you described that jam, as the thing on the cheese plate you don’t ask the host because of watching their dogs! I have to say I am always on the verge of buying fig jam, but for some reason I decide not to! Next time I see it I will have to pick it up!
You just have to take the plunge one day haha it seems pointless but you WILL use it, and it will be delicious 🙂
