#100milemarch update

Well, it’s halfway through the month! I’m slowly but surely working on my personal goal to run 100 miles this month, and have even recruited some unexpected suckers to join me (how’s it coming for you, Salt?)

#100milemarch

So with 50% down and 50% to go, where am I?

40 miles.

“Oy vey, Lauren, you’re 10 miles behind!”

Fear not, doubters! I started out only being able to run 4-5 miles at a time comfortably, and now I’m at 7-8 each run. So the miles will keep chipping away even faster now. Plus, I was only able to run 10 my first week thanks to a new medication kicking the crap out of me, so I’m building momentum each day. For someone who probably ran 40 miles from the months of December-February, this is big stuff. I have no doubt that I’ll be able to hit it!

So, what have I learned so far?

  1. Sometimes you don’t want to run. Run anyway. You’ll be happier for it.
  2. A bag of mixed vegetables is better than any store-bought ice pack.
  3. Hot power yoga is myย best friend.
  4. My ears sweat.
  5. When I run, I crave ice cream. Gottaย work on that..
  6. I am blessed to live in such a vibrant running city.

Chicago

Goal-crushing.

How are you doing on your March goals?

  1. Well done with your progress so far! I think you are bang on track, doing it the right way, starting on shorter miles and then increasing.
I had to laugh about your ears sweating – I swear since doing CrossFit I have found areas of my body that I never knew could sweat!

    1. Yep! I’m trying not to get nervous because I know that the further I get into the month, the longer the miles will get and the quicker they’ll fly by. Gotta be safe ๐Ÿ™‚ no one else has commented on the ear sweating! hahaha

  2. You are doing fantastic! Way to build up toward a goal and avoid injury! That picture is beautiful, that could be enough to get me at least to commit to a walk when I wasn’t feeling a run, which would inevitably turn into one!

I think the ice cream cravings come with the tennis! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Nice job! My shins have started bothering me even though I got new shoes and I am thinking it’s because I just jumped back into running 6 or more miles at a time after not consistently running for a couple months. I don’t want to cut back, but I know from experience that if I don’t calm it down I will hurt myself again and then there will be another race I can’t run!

  4. So funny you mention the mixed veggies…that’s what we always use for ice packs around here! Even Betty knows they make better ice packs than ice packs! So let’s see…this month is going pretty well! I think I have 76 miles for this month so far (thanks 18 miler!). You are definitely going to hit your goal! Stick with it!

    1. Thanks for the support! I’m trying to build up slowly and in a healthy way…because I know it’s going to be a looooong season until the Chicago marathon in October! Mixed veggies are gold ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Haha no you can crave things all the time…it’s when you give in too much that’s a problem! I have to start making alternatives otherwise all my hard work is going to get cancelled out by the junk!

  5. WOOT WOOT for your awesome goal! I have no doubt that you’ll get it. How awesome that you’ve made it up to 7-8 miles comfortablyโ€“ that’s no small feat! And I crave ice cream constantly and my roommate makes it worse by telling me “You ran __ miles today! You deserve that ice cream.” Ha! Love her but she makes it hard to ever not eat it ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. You can totally crush the next 60 miles! Getting sick is a bummer ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Are you training for a race or just for fun?

  7. Yes a bag of peas is seriously the best ice pack out there! Good luck with the rest of your month. I might just have to do a 100 mile May ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I could’ve sworn I commented on this yesterday but I guess I got sidetracked from work stuff after I read this?! I’m sorry!
Anyways…you are totally doing great and will make it to 100 miles, no doubt! As much as I love running, there are days when I don’t want to do it either. Hitting the treadmill or the roads is the hardest part though because once I start, it’s so rewarding.

  9. 100 miles in a month is an amazing feat and goal! good for you on doing that.
Also – agreed on the fact that sometimes you dont want to run, but you should anyway! Definitely easier said than done some days.
Ps i also have sweaty ears ๐Ÿ˜ฆ i had to buy headphones that are sweat and water resistant so they wouldn’t keep breaking!

  10. FROZEN VEGGIES are definitely the best ice pack – those came in handy a few weeks ago….. I will update everyone about that in a few weeks on the blog ๐Ÿ˜‰

And I totally agree with you about just DOING IT (running/working out in general that is) because even if you feel CRUMMY before hand, after you’re going to feel like $1912483724738248239!

    1. Oy can’t wait for what I can only guess is a great story ๐Ÿ˜‰ it’s colder today but I have to “JUST DO IT” again! That’s a huge dollar amount. Why can’t my bank account look like that?
