Well, it’s halfway through the month! I’m slowly but surely working on my personal goal to run 100 miles this month, and have even recruited some unexpected suckers to join me (how’s it coming for you, Salt?)
So with 50% down and 50% to go, where am I?
40 miles.
“Oy vey, Lauren, you’re 10 miles behind!”
Fear not, doubters! I started out only being able to run 4-5 miles at a time comfortably, and now I’m at 7-8 each run. So the miles will keep chipping away even faster now. Plus, I was only able to run 10 my first week thanks to a new medication kicking the crap out of me, so I’m building momentum each day. For someone who probably ran 40 miles from the months of December-February, this is big stuff. I have no doubt that I’ll be able to hit it!
So, what have I learned so far?
- Sometimes you don’t want to run. Run anyway. You’ll be happier for it.
- A bag of mixed vegetables is better than any store-bought ice pack.
- Hot power yoga is myย best friend.
- My ears sweat.
- When I run, I crave ice cream. Gottaย work on that..
- I am blessed to live in such a vibrant running city.
Goal-crushing.
How are you doing on your March goals?
The fact that we use KM’s here in Australia scares me. 100 mile march. You are epic.
Never has the word “epic” been used to describe me. I’m loving it.
Well done with your progress so far! I think you are bang on track, doing it the right way, starting on shorter miles and then increasing.
I had to laugh about your ears sweating – I swear since doing CrossFit I have found areas of my body that I never knew could sweat!
Yep! I’m trying not to get nervous because I know that the further I get into the month, the longer the miles will get and the quicker they’ll fly by. Gotta be safe ๐ no one else has commented on the ear sweating! hahaha
Hahaha! We can just be weird ear sweaters together! ๐
Now you know why I eat so much ice cream. And I don’t run that high of mileage for a marathoner. Imagine if I did! Great job!
Can’t wait to start being able to justify the amount I eat ๐ marathoners get that privilege! I guess I’ve just always been an honorary marathoner lol
You are doing fantastic! Way to build up toward a goal and avoid injury! That picture is beautiful, that could be enough to get me at least to commit to a walk when I wasn’t feeling a run, which would inevitably turn into one!
I think the ice cream cravings come with the tennis! ๐
Thanks! I hope I’m avoiding injury by doing it this way ๐ so far, so good! And you’re right — even when I don’t want to run I want to bike all the time it’s just too beautiful!
Wow you are doing great! You are going to do just fine on the marathon…my goals for march is not about running sad to say lol…but I am right on track with my march goals which include food photography ๐
Good job on your goals! It feels good to stick to them, doesn’t it?
Nice job! My shins have started bothering me even though I got new shoes and I am thinking it’s because I just jumped back into running 6 or more miles at a time after not consistently running for a couple months. I don’t want to cut back, but I know from experience that if I don’t calm it down I will hurt myself again and then there will be another race I can’t run!
Agreeeeeed! Don’t get injured — you get enough sweating in at Sweat ๐ take it easy on the runs!
Nice work lady! I think 40 miles halfway through the month is pretty impressive in and of itself. Now that the city’s coming alive, I’m sure it’ll be even easier to get out there and get your miles in ๐
Thanks! I’m pretty proud of that mileage. The path is alive again and it’s a beautiful thing!
Nice job on working towards your goal! I think being in such a great environment helps keep the momentum going.
The scenery definitely doesn’t hurt ๐
So funny you mention the mixed veggies…that’s what we always use for ice packs around here! Even Betty knows they make better ice packs than ice packs! So let’s see…this month is going pretty well! I think I have 76 miles for this month so far (thanks 18 miler!). You are definitely going to hit your goal! Stick with it!
Thanks for the support! I’m trying to build up slowly and in a healthy way…because I know it’s going to be a looooong season until the Chicago marathon in October! Mixed veggies are gold ๐
I need to run more in Chicago when I visit! My sister lives near Wrigley. Love your blog!
She and I might be neighbors then!!
You are a brave and strong soul for committing to this!! And I crave ice cream all the time….is that bad?
Haha no you can crave things all the time…it’s when you give in too much that’s a problem! I have to start making alternatives otherwise all my hard work is going to get cancelled out by the junk!
WOOT WOOT for your awesome goal! I have no doubt that you’ll get it. How awesome that you’ve made it up to 7-8 miles comfortablyโ that’s no small feat! And I crave ice cream constantly and my roommate makes it worse by telling me “You ran __ miles today! You deserve that ice cream.” Ha! Love her but she makes it hard to ever not eat it ๐
That’s how my friends are! They think my eating is justified by the miles…which is kinda true but that can be a tricky trap! Thanks for the kind words of encouragement ๐
You can totally crush the next 60 miles! Getting sick is a bummer ๐ฆ Are you training for a race or just for fun?
Just to get back in running shape FOR race season ๐ nothing in particular.
You are on your way! And you will do great! What a fantastic goal and you will feel wonderful when you achieve it!
Thanks! I feel confident, like I’m on the right track! I can taste the victory coming my way ๐
Love that picture along the lake! And hot power yoga is my best friend too! Isn’t it the best?! ๐ Good luck with the rest of your miles. You’ve definitely got this!
It really is the best! It helps so, so much. I’ll have to go again tomorrow to stay safe!
Yes a bag of peas is seriously the best ice pack out there! Good luck with the rest of your month. I might just have to do a 100 mile May ๐
Peas are even better! such good even distribution of the coldness haha. 100 mile may sounds great maybe I’ll join you again! ๐
You are doing an awesome job!
My March goals are on track. I am tracking my portions more and it’s making a big difference.
That’s amazing! Portion control can be so tough so that’s a huge goal to attain!
I could’ve sworn I commented on this yesterday but I guess I got sidetracked from work stuff after I read this?! I’m sorry!
Anyways…you are totally doing great and will make it to 100 miles, no doubt! As much as I love running, there are days when I don’t want to do it either. Hitting the treadmill or the roads is the hardest part though because once I start, it’s so rewarding.
How dare you! Haha just kidding ๐ it’s a little cold today so I don’t want to run again but I’m gonna push through because the feeling post-run is like no other!
100 miles in a month is an amazing feat and goal! good for you on doing that.
Also – agreed on the fact that sometimes you dont want to run, but you should anyway! Definitely easier said than done some days.
Ps i also have sweaty ears ๐ฆ i had to buy headphones that are sweat and water resistant so they wouldn’t keep breaking!
I have to look into headphones like that! hahaha
FROZEN VEGGIES are definitely the best ice pack – those came in handy a few weeks ago….. I will update everyone about that in a few weeks on the blog ๐
And I totally agree with you about just DOING IT (running/working out in general that is) because even if you feel CRUMMY before hand, after you’re going to feel like $1912483724738248239!
Oy can’t wait for what I can only guess is a great story ๐ it’s colder today but I have to “JUST DO IT” again! That’s a huge dollar amount. Why can’t my bank account look like that?
