Jim Halpert + delicata squash

I’m ashamed of myself for missing yesterday. Mostly because it was this man’s birthday:

Hello, giggles. We miss you on primetime TV. I’ll be watching It’s Complicated and Something Borrowed in honor of how good he makes 35 look.

And since it’s been awhile since I’ve shared my eats with you, I figured now’s as good a time as ever. I ate by myself at Portillo’s last night and it was liberating. I got to scroll through Instagram and people-watch without any of that pesky conversation to worry about. Other than that it’s been plenty of home-cooked meals, new snacks from TJ’s, and a few outings. A great balance.

My new nut obsession – must be salted or what’s the point?

Always a great option for a quick mini-meal from Starbucks

Portillo’s chopped salad – it just never gets old

Clearly my head wasn’t in the food-photography game this past week. When writer’s block strikes, you get whatever photos I have of my food that I can pass off for an excuse for a post. Bear with me 🙂

Questions:

  • Do you ever eat alone in restaurants?
  • What was the best thing you ate this weekend?

  1. This weekend, I FINALLY got around to trying the 2-ingredient pizza dough recipe (where you just use self-rising flour and greek yogurt) to make homemade pizzas. It really is fantastic! Especially for being a ridiculously easy recipe. Loved it and I recommend. Oooh, what does delicata squash actually TASTE like? I’ve seen it on other blogs but never tried it myself. I love other squash–acorn, butternut, zucchini–so I hope I would like delicata.

  2. I ate alone a few times in NYC- it really is liberating and actually something I enjoyed! Geebuz, starbucks for all your meals. Then again- they do have some epic ones there.

Best thing I ate this weekend was granola. Too much granola.

  3. That squash looks beautiful! I bet it was tasty! I tried the vita coco lemonade, did not like it at all, I felt like the lemon and the coconut flavours were fighting against each other in my mouth!
I made a paleo apple crisp this weekend, it was so damn good! I wish I had made double! 🙂

  4. Way to go on remembering 1) Jim’s birthday and 2) to take so many food photos! I’m still so bad at remembering. That marg looks delish and thanks for the FYI on the coconut water…. I’m pretty picky when it comes to coconut water and I’ve wondered about that kind before. Guess that’s a no!

    1. Yeah I wouldn’t go for that particular one haha the two flavors didn’t mesh together at all. Honestly that was a pretty random assortment of my photos so don’t think I have my shit together or anything 😉

  5. I can’t say I have gone to an actual restaurant but I do go to whole foods hot bar and sometimes panera by myself. I kind of love it too, sometimes you just need silence when you eat!

  6. Oh Jim. Such a good man. Stand up guy. Ketchup is indeed a veg like a french fry is. If you had gone salsa then I would give it to you, but ketchup is just tomato paste. But the word is still in there, so there you go.
Now I need tequila, at 7 in the morning. Thanks for that.

    1. Way to burst my bubble SUSIE 😦 haha. $7 taco platter and $7 margaritas at Theory on Tuesday night! Grab Alex and make a date night of it 🙂 Although you’re used to Cantina Laredo so you have pretty high standards hahaa

  7. Ohhh I love these food pics. Yummy!! So so sweet!! That last food pic…yummy!! Totally want that for lunch!! Pumpkin cranberry crackers sound really delicious, too!! You go girl!! Have a fab week!! xoxo

  8. i’ve eaten along in restaurants before but i don’t make a habit of it — i’d rather grab something and eat at home if i’m solo. save me some money. best thing i had this wknd was brunch with the boy — yogurt, granola, fruit, mimosas. company and my fave foods…can’t beat it.

  9. Ah, what a bummer to hear that coconut water isn’t that great! I think coconut water on its own is VILE, but I can handle flavored coconut water, so I thought the lemonade version might be all right — though not enough to actually go out and try it for myself. And now I don’t have to! Haha.

    1. This is only the second time I’ve tried coconut water and I really just don’t like it either. It tastes kind of like if you left a Gatorade out in the sun for a few days and then stuck it back in the fridge…….I don’t know haha

  10. Starbucks gets a good chunk of my paycheck too, which is ironic because they also give me my paycheck. Haha. This is one squash I haven’t baked my self!! Must get on it!

    1. Hahaha you’re preaching to the choir. I get a lululemon paycheck but then dress in all their clothes so……..it’s a never-ending cycle! you fall in love with what you’re selling and then want all the things! You would love this squash by the way it really was flavorful with such little effort
