WIAW: the flood and the food

wiawloveyourveggiesmonthbutton2Well yesterday was “a day” to say the least. Zain’s bathroom flooded while we were all at work yesterday so the damage spread through the hallway and his bedroom. Needless to say all of our clothes, papers, and other objects were chilling in about an inch of toilet water for probably six or seven hours.  Fun right?!

(I will remain calm I will remain calm I will remain calm)

In an effort to pretend the day didn’t happen let’s just do a WIAW, shall we? Looking at pictures of food calms my nerves at least.

Before work I went to the gym and got a quick workout in. 30 minutes of the elliptical, 12 minutes rowing, 5 minutes wall balls. All while watching Million Dollar Listing LA. Oh Madison, you’re the only one I can tolerate on that show. But I can’t lie…now that we’re back to subzero temps in Chicago a little condo on the beach surrounded by palm trees and sunshine doesn’t sound too bad.

Breakfast

Of course I got back from the gym excited for the most important meal of the day:

Coffee, whole wheat English muffin with raspberry jam, and a delicious omelet filled with cheddar cheese, green peppers and onions.

I don’t know WHAT was happening in my office yesterday but I was cooking like a chicken. It was so hot that I started dreaming of Diet Dr. Pepper like a mirage in the Sahara.  So midmorning I succumbed to the temptation and had a Big Gulp. It was incredible.

Lunch

Lunch was a quick sandwich from Corner Bakery: Tomato, mozzarella, leafy greens, and marinated red peppers. This was one of those sandwiches that you finish and wish there was more.

Snack

My afternoon snack was nothing exciting—grapefruit slices that I threw in some plain greek yogurt.

Dinner

I took the chilly walk home and walked through the door to Noah’s Ark so the rest of the night was a blur. I stress ate like a boss (not going to lie). Luckily I did get a few nutrients in the form of spaghetti squash—I replaced ¾ of my pasta with roasted squash so that totally makes up for me stuffing my face with mozzarella sticks, tortilla chips and chocolate chips, right?

At the end of the day, everything is under control. Sure we have to do about 100 loads of laundry and I have to walk around the apartment in rain boots, but it’s all going to be okay. Perspective, right?  All I can do is smile and keep playing One Republic. I spent the rest of the night watching The Bachelor for the second night in a row and that did a pretty good job of making me feel better about my life. Oh Juan Pablo…you’re the worst.

Questions:

  • Have you ever tried spaghetti squash? What did you think?
  • Did you watch The Bachelor this week? For me it’s like a car crash…I don’t want to watch but I just can’t look away…
  • What was the best thing you ate yesterday?

  1. Is there a new season of Million Dollar Listing??! I agree they can all be so obnoxious, but seeing the homes– especially the beach ones makes it easy to dream! Your breakfast looks delicious!

    1. It was a rerun — I’m not even sure how long that show’s been around but it looked like it was at least five years old…Madison didn’t have his usual confidence like he does now haha. There was one house on the beach with a couch on the patio that faced the ocean…good lord

  2. Not even gonna comment on the fiasco because we’re pretending it didn’t happen, right? I have some catching up to do on this weeks Bachelor, but you’re right… that show always makes me feel better about myself! At least I’m not slutting it up in the ocean with a creep 😉 I haven’t made spaghetti squash in forever! Every time I see it, I’m at Costco and I don’t need two 30 pound gourds. I don’t love it that much!!

  3. I am impressed at your ability to stay on the rowing machine for 12 minutes! I can’t stand any longer than 5!
And coincidentally I cooked up my first spaghetti squash last night… and hated it. It just tasted like nothing and I wasn’t a fan ):

    1. Thanks I built up to the 12 minutes, trust me! And yeah I didn’t “love” the spaghetti squash but I think it does a good job of bulking up food that otherwise doesn’t fill me up as well as veggies. Just like when I bulk up pasta with green beans, I don’t expect it to taste exactly the same, but I definitely prefer having a big bowl of “pasta” as opposed to 3/4 of a cup of just regular noodles like the serving size says. 3/4 a cup of ANYTHING wouldn’t fill me up haha

  4. Bless your heart, girl! I would be one grumpy and unhappy lady had our apt. flooded like yours. I can’t even imagine walking into the door & seeing something like that. Glad you’ve been able to get most of the laundry done. i just hope you didn’t get too much damage from the flood. Heres to hoping the remaiinder of your week goes smoothly 🙂

  5. Greek yogurt and grapefruit, love that idea! I am loving spaghetti squash lately too, and yes I totally makes up for the mozzarella sticks and things 🙂
Juan Pablo= dirtbag yet I can’t stop watching either!!
