what a week: old friends, new workouts, daytime drinks and my best’s birthday

Today’s the day I get back on track. Heck yes I’ve said this a couple dozen times over the past six months but today I’m putting my thoughts into action.

It means I’ll be posting more than twice a week (YOU’RE WELCOME), making more of my meals, working out five times a week, increasing my running mileage, going to bed at a decent hour, waking up early, weekly yoga, reading books, and finally diving into my personal training studies.

My lack of writing hasn’t been due to a my lack of activity. Quite the opposite – I’ve had an absolute ball playing all around the city. So much great food, so much fitness, dinners with old friends, and making plans for the future. And the cherry on top of the sundae is that I’m still head over heels in love with my job at lululemon, so every day feels like an adventure (an adventure I get paid to have. whadddup!)

Mussels with another old friend. Not the best but it made me crave them so I'm setting out to find some great mussels in Chicago this week!

The everyday struggles of a group text.

The everyday struggles of a group text.

I knew I had a good week but, after putting it all out there on IHABL, I just really can’t believe how blessed my life has become. It’s funny…life can be so painful for awhile. But, it’s just like they say in Batman (bear with my terribly-placed quotes  here): “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” Now that I feel happy and confident with the direction my life is taking, I can’t wait to start this week, disciplined and dedicated to stay on track.

So, tell me about your weekends!

Questions:

  • Favorite food to order when you go out to eat?
  • Ever done beach yoga?
  • What was the weirdest ice cream flavor you’ve ever tried?

  1. I love Anastasia! I can’t believe you hadn’t seen it before! Did you like it?

My favorite foods to order out are pancakes and mac and cheese…not together LOL

I’ve never done yoga on the beach. Not a huge fan of sand.

Weirdest icecream…peach cobbler frozen yogurt. Weird and gross! LOL

    1. I’m kind of the same way about sand! I love the idea of the beach but the minute I go I hate getting sand everywhere haha. And restaurants always know how to make a killer mac and cheese so I don’t blame you at all – deliiiiish

  2. I think I need goat cheese ice cream in my life right now. It looks like you’ve been having so much fun! I have never done beach yoga before, but that looks positively heavenly. I have done yoga at a really awesome resort, but unfortunately it was poolside and not on the beach.

  3. yoga and drinks on the beach = amazing. never heard of goat cheese ice cream — never ceases to amaze me, the flavors they have these days. my wknd was fun — some Latin dancing, some bopping around the city with friends, some drinks and live music on a pier, and lots of sleeping. perfect. 🙂

  4. I’m pretty sure I’m having heart palpitations over the number of unread e-mails you have. Haha. One of my best friends has something like 3000 unread e-mails, and it stresses me out even though it’s not my e-mail 😛 Gotta have my inbox at 0 unread or else it drives me bonkers!

  5. I want your weekend. I would die if I saw that many unread emails. On the other hand, total mark of pride moment over that. So glad that you are feeling so much better and on such a better path and groove. If anything, you have to know that you made the right decision.
Now, can we please rewind all of this so that I can join in?

  6. Sandwiches! I love sandwiches!!

I’ve never done beach yoga but I always try and do a yoga move or two when I’m drunk. Apparently, beer puts me in the mood for Warrior III.

    1. Sandwiches are the best when you’re out to eat. You get a HUGE sandwich plus usually a deliciously unhealthy side like french fries, and it’s usually one of the most inexpensive menu items. Not a bad deal 🙂

  7. Ohhh super brownie points for quoting Batman! One of my favorite superheros. And I wouldn’t mind having yoga at the beach, sounds so crazy relaxing. I normally love to get big hearty (and unique) salads or some type of fish when I eat out. Well, if I can afford it, hehe. Salads for some reason are hard to make “nice” at home so I try to take advantage of that. 🙂

    1. Oh I totally agree! Restaurants somehow know just the right combinations of cool, unique ingredients that all come together and make a delicious, satisfying salad. I sometimes get overwhelmed when I try to make a big salad at home haha

    1. hahaha not only do I eat the whole box, I always add the “optional” butter and bulk it up with peas. and it STILL fits into a cereal bowl (a little tall, but it fits!). That is so not 2.5 servings!

  8. I REALLY want to do beach yoga and even moreso now that I saw your picture. I’m also very intrigued by paddleboarding yoga mostly because I don’t understand how you do yoga on a board in the water, but it sounds like it would be fun!

  9. DEAR GOD your group text and EMAIL notifications make me cringe!! HAHA. I hate seeing numbers on my phone. I am not a big beach fan, but beach yoga sounds LEGIT! There is a free yoga in the park class on Friday taught by the woman I go to yoga for on Monday’s. I think I should go!

    1. The email one isn’t really my fault because it’s set up to my university email which I haven’t checked since I graduated over a year ago. In all fairness it’s mostly food deals and stuff from the career center, so I just let the number keep growing 🙂 There are a lot more free classes than I ever imagined, if you just do a little research. It’s so awesome!

  10. I LOVE that you’ve been living and neglecting the blog- that is what balance is all about buddy!

Urgh, we both had sucky mussels too but at least our cravings were satisfied (mine had that gross string in it still lol!). You need to come here to have crazy ice cream flavours. I had a bacon and maple one with pancake batter in it. All in the same damn ice cream.

  11. Ok, this post made me smile smile smile!!! 🙂 I LOVE hearing your happiness in your writing!
As a paleo peep, I guess I mostly order meat when I go out! But I do love fish, especially salmon when I go out as I don’t tend to cook it that often.
Wish I could join you for yoga on the beach. I want to do more yoga but don’t have anyone to go with! Also Glasgow doesn’t have a beach! Too cold anyway 🙂

    1. I think fish at restaurants is always so, so great! They really know how to combine awesome flavors to really make an otherwise simple piece of fish shine 🙂 and see, that’s just another reason you have to go to Disneyland! the beach!

  12. Woohoooo this all looks like so much fun!!! Time for me to eat since this all made me so hungry!

And Anastasia is the BEST I’m so glad you’ve finally seen it!!!! I mean, I tell ya what WoW!

  13. Ahh Jeni’s ice cream! My favorite! It is horrible because it used to be right across the street from me 😦 and now its a 40 minute drive haha! I just love the buckeye state ice cream!
