Friday Favorites: Saved By the XXL

I’m actually cracking up at this creative title I came up with. You’ll see how it all ties together below but just know in the mean time that I’m super proud of myself.

It’s been a good week. So that calls for some Friday Favorites, aka the best things I’ve come across the past few days. I’m still 5/5 with my #diningin challenge so that’s reason enough to celebrate. Seeing my bank account stay relatively the same for a full five days is pretty inspiring and it makes me excited to take control of my spending habits in the future.

Jimmy Fallon Saved By The Bell

Did you guys see this? How great is Jimmy Fallon??

This is the greatest thing to happen on TV since, well, ever. I may have teared up a little. Sidenote: it’s scary how people these days look the same, if not better, than they did 20 years ago. I see it all the time and it just freaks me out!

Skinny Buffalo Chicken Dip

I mentioned on Monday that my favorite part about the Super Bowl (besides Katy Perry and the avocado commercial) was all the buffalo chicken dip I got to eat. Now, this isn’t even the worst in the world of dips. After all, it’s chicken-based, right? But I wondered, why can’t I eat this more often than once a year? I love it so much! My coworker and I were talking about it the next day and she shared this recipe with me, so I’m really excited to give it a try! Maybe buffalo chicken dip will become a new weekend staple? 😀

The Definitive Guide to Healthy Eating

I was dying reading this. It pretty much encompasses everything that’s frustrating about mainstream “dieting” knowledge. Read it and weep, ya know-it-alls!

A snippet from the post:

  • Gluten is the devil.  The actual devil.  Unless you test negative for gluten sensitivity in which case it’s perfectly healthy and should be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet and eaten on the reg.

If you test negative for gluten sensitivity IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT GLUTEN IS NOT DESTROYING YOUR GUT AT THIS VERY MOMENT, IT’S MOST LIKELY CAUSING IRREPARABLE DAMAGE THAT WILL EVENTUALLY KILL YOU.

Grains are the true devil and should be avoided at all costs, they will cause your gut to leak, destroy your relationships and they will make you fat and quite probably cause diabetes.  Unless you soak them overnight before cooking in which case they are slightly less toxic.

Grains are the best and only way to receive enough carbohydrates for your body to function properly, one should make whole grains a regular part of one’s diet without fail.  Without them you will become a shadow of yourself and die.

Free Massages

We had the folks from Exhale Spa come in the store yesterday and give complimentary chair massages. I took a bullet for the team and went first so that the guests would be intrigued and hopefully want to do it too. I’m selfless.

Holy crap mother of god. I always forget how amazing massages are. It was less than ten minutes but I felt like a new woman (not to mention the masseuse said she was surprised I was functioning with how tight my shoulders were — apparently there was a “boulder” in my shoulder. — so I’m extra glad I got some work done on it). But what kind of person could possibly have a bad week when it included a free massage?

And last, but certainly not least:

Magic Mike XXL Trailer

No explanation necessary. I only love this movie for my all-time celebrity crush Channing Tatum. So the first 50 seconds of this had me giggling at my computer, alone, like I was 15 and just got my first kiss. Straight up giggling.

He is such an incredible dancer. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Questions:

  • Any fun plans this weekend? Share!
  • Who is your celebrity crush?
  • Did you watch Saved By The Bell?

  1. Channing Tatum is… Actually I don’t think there is a word to describe him well enough!!! 😉
Kind of disagree a wee bit about the whole gluten/grains thing – I think for some, they are fine, for some they aren’t and you don’t need a test to prove how they make you feel – just like some don’t eat meat because they don’t like how it makes them feel. We are all different! And yes the gluten bashing crowd are so frustrating and annoying but I think the gluten free bashing crowd are getting just as big a voice. Let’s just all respect each other for our own choices and not bash each other! (I know you never do Lauren, I was just relating to the quotation 🙂 )
I would kill for a massage right now, my lower back has been so sore all week from CrossFit – urgh!
Hope you have a good weekend, hopefully including some buffalo dip!

    1. You have to read the whole post! It’s all about how there are so many “truths” out there regarding health and fitness, some POLAR OPPOSITES of each other haha. It’s really funny! But I agree — everyone needs to stop bashing others’ food choices and just let it be. Have a beautiful weekend!

  2. The Saved by the Bell skit is hands down the best thing Jimmy Fallon has ever done! Zac, freakin, Morris everyone! And I just watched the Magic Mike trailer the other day. I wish I had just like 1/10 of Channing Tatum’s dancing skills. The end where he introduces himself and the n twirls? Hilarious!

    1. Right?! When I have a few drinks in me I like to think I can dance like Channing Tatum but then I realize NOPE…he is extremely, extremely talented. And such a goofball! Did you see when Sony got hacked, they exposed some of his emails? He’s so freaking funny. Look it up!

  3. OMG Channing Tatum!!! Haha. I got a pass to get a sports massage for my birthday and I cannot tell you how excited I am to go subject myself to that glorious pain for 90 minutes. =)

    1. Hahaha he’s the best — no argument. I’ve only ever had two sports massages and both times the girl wasn’t strong enough lol. If I’m going to pay for a massage I want to be in tears! I was sweating after this ten minute massage though she really worked that knot in my shoulder.

  4. You will freak if I told you I have not watched magic mike. I will make it happen though! My fun plans this weekend is fixing my new rental apartment and I am excited for that. I used to watch saved by the bell every morning while getting ready to go to school. Loved it.

  5. I am so entirely jealous of your massage! I just know my back is incredibly tight! But hey got my first ever professional massage scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day!

  6. I could totally use a good massage, way to take one for the team there 🙂 I also love the definite guide to eating healthy. I’ve been getting so much flack about how much or how little I eat lately from various people, why not just focus on yourself peeps!

  7. #1: Jimmy Fallon has been stepping up his game lately: I’m impressed.
    #2: A free massage – lucky you!
#3: Personally, I really just love Chris Hemsworth 😀

  8. Amen to the XXL. I was excited to see the new trailer this week! I’m not as big of a Channing Tatum fan as I am of just really attractive, gorgeous, sexy men just dancing on a big screen. Yes, please? I think my personal favorite is Joe Manganiello.

  9. SAVED BY THE BELL WAS THE SHEEZE NEEZE BABY!!!!! In that clip Jimmy looks so much like Mike Myers! ha. Not sure if that’s a compliment 😉

Oh and I am totally going to get some free massages tomorrow!!! Los Angeles Fit Expo going on!

  10. OMG SAVED BY THE BELL WAS MY JAM! My favorite was this girl Tori who was a punk! She was a complete babe and bada$$! My celebrity crush would be Ellen…ok kidding she’s my girl crush. I am still crushing on Zac Efron. He’s so dreamy!
MY weekend will be full of snow…14 inches of it. But if I go sledding tomorrow it’s all worth it 🙂

  11. Oh God. Was the first Magic Mike really that good? I should do another post on it haha.

I think you need to make that buffalo chicken dip and send it here- I didn’t even know dips could have chicken in them. I also never watched Saved By the Bell…I think I fail at life.

    1. Magic Mike wasn’t very good, no haha. The plot kinda sucked. But Channing Tatum can do no wrong in my book. Yeah most dips I’ve had aren’t chicken-based haha but this one is an exception! So delicious! Saved by the Bell is the epitome of the American high school in the 90s haha you have to watch it!

  12. I was just talking about needing a massage yesterday. I went to Hard Pressed after working out for 3 days in a row and now my body is rebelling.

I loved that SBTB (Im cool so I abbreviate) clip, but I wanted to see Lisa and Screech!

  13. I love buffalo chicken dip. I try and make it healthy by using fat free cream cheese and fat free ranch and no one seems to notice the difference. I love massages. I wish they would come into my work and give us free chair massages. I never watched saved by the Bell but sometimes I will watch it if it’s on these days. It’s a good laugh.

    1. It’s funny how often people don’t even notice when you alter a dish to fit your own dietary needs haha. Wouldn’t life be better if there were always free chair massages at work? Employees would be a lot happier!
